Twitter is magic.

After Friday’s extremely late, extremely ugly night (which I don’t think I am talking about yet), I woke up the next day in the afternoon, completely flat and sluggish. Dragged myself to my computer, opened Safari and got on Twitter. These are the sorts of things I do when I’m half asleep.

And right there, top of the page, my new friend Barry is selling his Eee PC 4G. It is just cheap enough that I can afford it and not regret it. I’ve been talking about a netbook for months now. I have a bad habit of not working well in my apartment, and so to get things done I take my Powerbook (her name is Quin) out into the city and do my work in cafes. Thing is, Quin is on the hefty side. I’m more likely these days to not work because I don’t feel mobile. I’ve gotten better at this, but in the meantime was thinking that a cheap, tiny computer might be just right.

So I jump on Barry’s Eee so fast I get Twitter whiplash, and a minute later he’s sold it to me and I wake Meitar up with my ecstatic babbling and insist that he needs to get his ass out of bed right now so I can go and get my new computer. There are clothes, coffee, train, and then we’re there and I squeal like a two year old with the thing in my hands. We go out into the city and I don’t stop squeeing, which I’m sure drives both Meitar and Barry a little mad. But oh well. Eee!

I haven’t done much so far except set up new users in Ubuntu and write this blog post. The keyboard makes me feel like a giant person, and my tiny little hands are not nearly tiny enough. I wonder if this thing will ruin my typing skills.

Don’t care. So excited, but with the rest of my life it’s a weird swinging between excited and dead on the floor in a heap, and I’m having trouble keeping up. But regardless, I love my new Eee. It needs a name, and then it will be mine.
