Portrait Project No. 1

Art: Christmas Present to Maymay, 2007

In cleaning and sorting and handling boxes, things of Maymay’s have come to me, and things of mine to him. In a box that was stored while we were away, I found a black picture frame with these sketches in it. Tomorrow I will go to New York and give this frame, along with many other things, back to him. I loved these pictures when I did them; I still love them now. I thought it would be well to keep and share some part of them before they leave my hands, so I borrowed Elizabeth’s scanner and saved them away.

They are originally done in pen and ink on watercolor paper, November to December of (I think) 2007. Click through for full sizes. Enjoy.

Art: Self Portrait(s)

Two self portraits. The same base drawing, but I thought to try a lighter line style this time around. It became…odd. I reverted back to bold, comic-style lines. Now I’m not sure which piece works better, but it’s 3am and I think I’ll leave the heavy decisions for the morning.
