  • Went home sick from work and slept. Glorious. Now on the northward road for the weekend, exploring an alternate highway. Have music. Happy. #
  • Stopped for bag search @ subway. Condoms, lube, toys, all clearly visible. Cop’s response? “Oh man, you have candy corn! I love that stuff!” #
  • I continue to be cheerful despite all obstacles. (Where cheerful=combined definitions of sardonic, optimistic, and mild analysis paralysis.) #

This portrait is different! I mean, besides the breasts. But they’re part of it. Er, obviously.

This drawing is a hold-over from the last time I was doing portraits, almost 2 years ago. When I started the new round of portraits, I realized a) I’d never colored this piece, and b) the subject already thought it was spiffy. Oh, and c) subject has NO good pictures of herself online. (Wtf, subject?)

Er, yes. Besides differences in quality of line and likeness that perhaps only I can see, the key difference is that this portrait had no photo source, unlike the current round. It came from my head, caricature fashion.

Part of me is still convinced that using photos as source material is cheating. Cheating what? I’m not sure. But it’s certainly easier for me to translate photos to paper than it is for me to make my friends sit still long enough to draw them.

Anyway. Glad to be doing more of these, and have about 10 stacked up to finish coloring. More art shall be.

  • My brother comes to visit for the weekend! He shows me his sweet $15 Goodwill jacket. Turns out it’s a silk Oscar de la Renta worth 2 grand. #
  • Went to the Met with my little brother. Found Blaise wandering the Greek sculptures. He and I cross the park for diner coffee, conversation. #
  • Generously eyeballed my coffee/water ratio today. How’s it go? Black as night, hot as hell, sweet as sin…? #
  • Max wants me to come see District 9. I tell him I hate scary movies. He promises it’s not scary. Don’t believe him, but it’s a sister thing. #
  • Max: I’m happy to hang out with you again. Me: Me too! I missed you! Him: Of course you missed me. I’m awesome. #
  • Every movie in Union Square is sold out. The crew decides to walk to Kip’s Bay. I bail to go home and make jewelry. Silly but satisfying. #
  • Cue 1st day of my ongoing winter bitch on how bloody cold it is. Need tropical sun in form of sweaters. Or a space heater, boy or otherwise. #
