My Week on Twitter: 2009-06-26

  • The party I am at today has been described as “a home for wayward geeks.” I know almost no one here, and yet already feel welcome. Huzzah. #
  • Sitting on the grass, drinking sangria, singing country and watching the fire spinners practice in preparation for the night. Content. #
  • BULLETIN: Had to replace my phone. Lost all my SIM data. Still have the same number. If you have it, dear friends, please text me? Thanks! #
  • Highlights: 18-hour beach getaway. Tipsy running from the rain. Skinny dipping in the Atlantic. Gorgeous girl and boy in my arms together. #
  • @janek85 My newest ongoing project is to to do a few of the slightly crazed things my sensible side has always shot down. Only young once? in reply to janek85 #
  • Day 1 of the #FancyFood show move-in. The Javits is a jumble of disassembled stages. Echoes of contruction and random bits of song. #
  • Last week, learned to fold rings from dollar bills. So far figured out 5-part boxes and bracelets. Apparently I have a new quirky hobby? #
  • Realization: in my own apartment, by myself. For the 1st time in 4 years, no one is coming home tonight but me. I am both spooked and happy. #
  • @Celany Glad to be here! But after an interesting moment on the ladder, have decided to hold off on painting while no one else is home. in reply to Celany #
  • @barrysaunders RIP Barry. Survived the beer. Survived the foursome. It was the Texas steakhouse special that finally finished him off. in reply to barrysaunders #

  • Holy wow, Penny Arcade; no longer easy laughs, geekery and dirty jokes? Where did this brilliant sci-fi noir come from? http://tr.im/oiY1 #
  • @SoraiLaFey reveals our apartment’s quirks, inc. a home theater w/ surround & projector + king-sized couch. We have the best apartment EVER. #
  • Home Depot success! Paint cans stacked on my hardwood floor, full of brilliant marine colors for my bedroom walls. Mmmm, liquidy potential. #
  • Wondering how much help I might have to paint my room tomorrow. Hey NYC, extra hands? I will repay in pizza and deep appreciation. #
  • Room: almost-but-not quite painted. Trim, fireplace & corners remain. Z & @misscalico worked hard with me all day. Thank you, lovely people. #
  • Night grows quiet, my helpers off to their own adventures. I will put on a movie, drink sweet coffee, continue to paint & meditate alone. #
  • What a gorgeous weekend that was. I appreciate the quiet, unassuming contentment that comes with consistent happiness. #
  • Stressing over f’ing the math on a back-of-the-envelope calculation at my interview tonight. Arg. Went well other than that, I think? #
  • @SoraiLaFey, @Celany & I are hanging together fr the 1st time since I moved into the place on the 1st. Life is awesome. So is our apartment. #
  • Working a marketing + design show. Attendees mingle: high-powered execs, fluttery interns, trendy hipster designers. Hillarious collisions! #
  • Free wifi at the show! My boss OKs my laptop. Having it out makes me Computer Girl: I fix Outlook, explain Twitter, troubleshoot the wifi. #
  • I have pushed myself into illness: headache, nausea, forgetfulness, uncharacteristic mistakes. Bah! Massive sleep debt MUST be addressed. #
  • Day grows older. I feel much less ill. With apple cinnamon tea, I watch the curtain drop. The conference breaks down, boxes and bags packed. #
  • Notes to self: Stay positively impulsive. Be passionate, but move on considered paths. Consider marketing career. Be joyful; it’s justified! #

My Week on Twitter: 2009-06-12

  • On a bus to DC, rain-soaked, aching and happy. Completely worn out, I make a nest in my seat and read lazily. Sleep? What sleep? #
  • Wireless on my trip to DC? Bolt Bus, you are a complete win. #
  • My uncle: “Do you all like penguins?” Me: “No. Disgraceful creatures.” My dad: “They’re greasy. And they walk upright. It’s pretentious.” #
  • The world moves in graceful ways. My life is blessed with a green plethora of new-ness. New relationships, new home, new goals, new growth. #
  • @MollyRen Apparently my father is some kind of penguin expert? in reply to MollyRen #
  • Weekend full of wine, fantasy novels, Cajun music and family. Emotionally drained, I anticipate rest, quiet recovery and reflection. #
  • Am thisclose to home, and immensely happy I have a home to come back to. #
  • Newest OKCupid message compliments my eyes and the gap b/n my teeth. Thanks, I want to say, but those are genetic? I take no responsibility. #
  • Working an engineering conference. Fascinating gender dynamics. Attendees almost all men. Have been called ‘hon,’ ‘dear’ and ‘miss’ so far. #
  • Next man through greets me with ‘Hey kid.’ How to respond? ‘Hello, old person?’ ‘Goodbye, kiddo.’ Arg. Kiddo? I hate that one. #
  • Next man: ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ Me: ‘I am grown up, sir. Enjoy the show.’ #
  • At engineering con I comment on social dynamics to a coworker. She says she doesn’t think strangers are interesting. We talk books instead. #
  • Sketching floor plans for my new apt. Room is a crazy half hexagon shape; I debate building a custom bedframe to sit angled in the window. #
  • @misscalico @MajaMajaMaja @ProblmLikeMaria @Dystiopienne I am so late to this conversation. -grin- Count me (tentatively) in, plus 1 guest. in reply to misscalico #
  • @MajaMajaMaja NO CAPES! in reply to MajaMajaMaja #
  • 5am, back from Suspension. Content, damp with dew. Mixed reactions to the space; more & more I discover that parties are no longer my scene. #

My Week on Twitter: 2009-06-05

  • #BEA show floor opens today! Excited, but dangerously sleepy. The promise of books wakes me up. The rain has morphed: heavy, fat, less good. #
  • Crushed with press. General note: even when ‘packing light’ do not leave your ID at home. Yes, you need an ID. I don’t think they’re heavy? #
  • In the romance section, I learn that investigative journalist Brock Lightner is still ruggedly sensual. Also, that romance makes me giggle. #
  • Notes to self: recruit brilliant friendships, write like hell, try to snark kindly, take time to renew my deep joy for boys with long hair. #
  • Dear New York: 7am I watch the sun rise over the outdoor platform. It is going to be a gorgeous day. #
  • Great show! But I’m glad to hve some time off early this week. Exhausted, awake, still smiling. Thankfully hard mornings follow good nights. #
  • Fabulous #BEA09 experience! New contacts, real momentum. Having a quiet drink to unwind & celebrate; thank you emails in the morning. Grin! #
  • Also, boys, sex, good food, much laughter, brilliant plans, confidence. My life is officially awesome. Can I get a certificate or something? #
  • E and I decided a month ago to start a publishing company. Isn’t it amazing how whimsical ideas can take hold and become passionate, real? #
  • Fell off the face of the Earth and in to Brooklyn. Have concluded that Brooklyn is too Brooklyn for me. #
